The most essential places to visit in Barcelona! Part II

Montjuic

National Art Museum of Catalonia, 1

The prominent hill of Montjuic, located opposite the sea, with a height of 173 meters, has become one of the best viewpoints of Barcelona and an ideal place for leisure, cultural and sport activities.

Thanks to the Universal Exhibition of 1929 and the 1992 Olympic Games, this hill has become one of the favorite places for tourists and locals. From the Plaza España, crossing the Venetian towers, you can access the Magic Fountain of Montjüic, where a light and water show is performed at night.

From there, going up the stairs, you will reach the National Art Museum of Catalonia, with a large collection of Romanesque art. In addition, the museum hosts temporary exhibitions of great artists and performs activities within it.
Further up is the Olympic Ring, which is home of the Olympic Stadium, built for the 1992 Summer Olimpics.
At the top stands the castle of Montjuic, a defensive fortress with great views of the city and the sea. It can be reached by using the Funicular de Montjuïc, a funicular railway that operates as part of the Barcelona Metro, and then a gondola lift.

La Rambla

Barcelona, La Rambla

Hated or loved by many, La Rambla is the most famous street in Barcelona and one of the most vital places of the catalan capital. Without a doubt, is one of its most essential attractions, it is full of people at all hours, day and night. On both sides you will find bars, cafes, restaurants, and plenty of shops, particularly the typical souvenir shops. In addition to the well-known newspaper and flower kiosks, you will also find a lot of street artists - human statues, buskers, etc.

Barcelona, Human Statues

Among the most prominent places to visit on the Rambla is the Liceu, the Palau Güell, the fascinating market of La Boquería (and I assure you as a local that its prices are still good and you will find everything), Café de l'Ópera and ends with the Statue of Columbus that curiously points to Egypt. And suddenly, we are facing the Mediterranean Sea.

La Barceloneta

La Barceloneta
La Barceloneta is one of the mythical neighborhoods of Barcelona, located next to the sea, which still retains its seafaring charm in its narrow streets and its restaurants of fresh fish, seafood and paella.
The area of the neighborhood closest to the sea has a more modern landscape, although the old traditions are still preserved and at the end of the afternoon it is possible to contemplate the arrival of the fishing boats that unload their catch to make an auction with the freshest fish.

Close to Maremagnum Shopping Centre
Only a few steps from La Barceloneta, in the Port Vell area, it is possible to do some shopping at the Maremagnum shopping center, watch a movie in the modern IMAX cinemas or immerse yourself in the marine world at the Aquarium.

One of the main attractions of the neighborhood are its beaches, the largest, best-known and busiest in the city. They have a great atmosphere and excellent services.

Barceloneta Area

Barceloneta is a perfect place to spend a day at the beach, wander around the neighborhood, eat fish or tapas in one of its many restaurants, play sports on its promenade and its Outdoor gyms or have a drink in one of their beach clubs.

Barrio Gotico (Gothic Quarter)

Gothic Quarter
The Gothic Quarter is, together with Las Ramblas, one of the must-see places in Barcelona. It is the central element of the municipal district of the Ciutat Vella, the old quarter of Barcelona, the largest treasure of Gothic buildings in Europe. Its origin that dates back to Roman times, from which you can still see some remains of the ancient city of Barcino.During the medieval period several Gothic buildings and palaces were built, which together with its narrow streets, its local shops and tapas bars, make it a perfect neighborhood for walking. A large number of bars, restaurants and shops keeps the area very lively until late at night.

There are several places in the neighborhood worth visiting, such as the beautiful Plaza Real, the Jewish quarter, the church and the Plaza de Sant Felip Neri, the Carrer del Bisbe, with its photogenic bridge, the church of Santa Ana, the Cathedral Santa Creu i Santa Eulàlia, Jaume Square, Els Cuatre Gats, Palau del Bisbe, Plaza del Rey with the Museum of the History of the City, the Temple of Augustus and the shopping street Portal de L'Angel.
