The most essential places to visit in Barcelona! Part I

Barcelona is one of the most dazzling cities on the European continent!  With an urban area of 4.8 million people it is the  largest metropolis on the Mediterranean Sea. It is a major cultural, economic center  and financial center  in southwestern Europe.

Its streets, neighborhoods, modernist buildings, parks, museums, along with a great gastronomy of tapas, fish and seafood, as well as an incredible traditional Catalan cuisine, we assure you, will make you fall in love with it immediately.

Sagrada Familia

 If there is a representative symbol of the city of Barcelona this, without any doubt, are the sharp and modernist towers of the Sagrada Familia by the most illustrious architect of Barcelona, the greatest exponent of Catalan modernism,  Antoni Gaudí. This expiatory temple began to be built at the end of the 19th century and nowadays it is still under construction - it is foreseen that the works will finish in 2026.

During the last years great progress has been made and it is quite impressive to contemplate the interior of the Temple as well as the new facade of the Passion that follows new architectural styles. Gaduí was inspired by the details of nature to make his work and when you look inside you will realize that the huge columns form a kind of spellbinding stone forest.

Bear in mind that the queues of tourists to visit the Sagrada Familia are tremendous especially in high season.

Parc Guell


Park Güell, another work by by Antoni Gaudí, is a public park with gardens and architectural elements located in the upper part of the city of Barcelona. It was  commissioned by  the businessman Eusebi Güell. Built between 1900 and 1914, it was inaugurated as a public park in 1926. In 1984, Unesco included Park Güell inside the World Heritage Site «Works by Antoni Gaudí».

This naturist style public park in which the sculptures, fountains and buildings are inspired by the undulating forms of nature, is one of the most beautiful in the world. From there, you can also enjoy beautiful views of the Mediterranean and the skyline of Barcelona.

Paseo de Gracia

La Pedrera
 The Paseo de Gracia  is the best known avenue and one of the most essential places to visit in Barcelona. This street connects the popular Plaza de Catalunya with the Gracia neighborhood and stands out for its modernist buildings, restaurants and its shops of the most famous and luxurious brands.

Among the jewels of Catalan Modernism on Paseo de Gracia is Casa Batlló, one of the masterpieces of the great Antonio Gaudí, declared World Heritage by Unesco.

Another of the incredible buildings that Gaudí made in this street and that also deserves a visit, especially its roof  is Casa Milà or La Pedrera.
