What to Visit in Sofia: Vitosha Mountain National Park

Vitosha is the oldest nature park on the Balkan Peninsula Just 20 minutes away from the hustle and bustle of the Bulgarian capital, you will find yourself in a real oasis. The distance from Sofia Center to the mountain is only 5 km.

The vegetal world of Vitosha Nature Park is extremely rich and diverse.

During the different seasons, there can be observed about 250 species of birds and about 130 of them nesting.

Vitosha, Stone Rivers

Typical of Vitosha Park are the stone rivers (moraites) and the scree. Especially impressive is the stone river in Zlatni Mostove area (1390 m asl).

Ten of the Vitosha peaks have an altitude of over 2000 meters, the highest among them is Cherni Vrah (2290 m).
